About Rose Mackie

I grew up in Glasgow, inspired by stories of magical castles and misty highlands. I found magic tucked between the pages of every book I could get my hands on.

Nearly twenty years ago, I packed up my life and moved to Australia with my partner (who I'd met when he was backpacking around the UK - very contemp-rom-com :) ), and began the serious business of setting up a life in a new country. Writing has always been my constant companion, but for the longest time, my laptop was basically a graveyard of half-finished novels. I had great intentions, but life kept getting in the way.

Then three years ago, I finally asked myself: what would it actually take to finish one of these stories? I pushed through and wrote what I wanted to read, but was struggling to find at the time. My first series was Under Violet Suns, a feminist sci-fi romance that had hulky, handsome aliens that didn't seem to want to push their mates into some odd version of a trad-wife role in space. 

When some brave, mad souls read that first complete manuscript and seemed to enjoy experience, I thought, why not see if the rest of the world might feel the same way? Spoiler alert: they did. And they wanted more.

Now, I write fantasy and sci-fi romance stories about normal people thrust into crazy situations. I'm passionate about writing body-positive, inclusive tales with strong female characters who save themselves (though a little help from a swoony love interest never goes amiss). Because let's be honest—we all deserve to see ourselves as the hero of our own adventure.

When I'm not torturing my characters with impossible choices and steamy romantic tension, you'll find me at home with my partner and our rescue cat, Carbon. Carbon was supposed to be a foster—we used to help feral cats find their forever homes—but he was so terrified of the world that he never left. Now he's the sookiest baby you've ever met, and I can't imagine life without him.

I believe that the best stories come from understanding people's hearts and that the best romance is from somene truly seeing you, right the way through to the core, and loving every part of you.

Most importantly, I'm a storyteller who believes that everyone deserves a happy ending, whatever that means for them.
